Course Title: Introduction to Technology Management
Course Description: The purpose of this course is to provide in depth examination of essential project management methods for instructional/information technology based projects for K-12 and higher education. Students in this course will gain cognitive management skills to successfully manage project schedules and budget, change/quality management, risk management, and resource planning.
Prerequisite: Official acceptance into the Ed.S. in Educational Leadership (Technology Concentration) program. changed to include official name of program
Course Objectives:
Upon the completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Utilize research results to analyze new and emerging technology tools for class optimization -What is class optimization? I think this one relates to #10 and can be combined with it
-
Develop a technology plan including resource alignment (eg., funding, staff and time, hardware/ software, total cost of ownership) I split this one into two
-
Demonstrate leadership skills necessary to integrate technology to support effective learning and administration (Administrator Technology Standard)
- Demonstrate responsible decision-making that reflects understanding of social, legal, and ethical issues related to technology (Administrator Technology Standard)
- Analyze and display project information via visual aid - I would like to change this one to something more specific to project management tools. How about: Apply project management tools to manage and track technology projects
- Identify problems that might be anticipated as schools confront the Information-Communication Age I think this one is closely related to the vision statement in #11. Let's combine or make this one an enabling objective to #11.
- Develop a foundation to build possible solutions for the problems identified this is not an objective - let's try to think of something a bit more specific
- Research major studies on technology and organizational change I think this is an enabling objective to #11.
- Engage in non-traditional, technologically-based learning This objective doesn't fit the course so i suggest we delete it
- Identify technology based tools and methodologies that can be used to satisfy educational practices and policy requirements
- Apply change and quality management procedures to the development of vision statements with emphasizes on technology
Develop analytical skills that can be used Analyze school/organization data in order to identify potential technology focused projects
- Perform assessments of evaluation plan/survey for technology focused projects - Reword: Assess/evaluate technology project implementations (Administrator Technology Standard)
Develop leadership skills that will assist in the integration of technology to support effective learning within the learning community (including but not limited to, teachers, students, parents, support staff, and administrators) This one seems to be a duplicate of the third one
Revised Course Objectives:
Here's my take on grouping these objectives. They will probably evolve a bit more as we move forward.
